VP for Academic Affairs

Charles Grim

Charles (Chuck) Grim is Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Reconciliation League. He brings more than four decades of experience in higher education: more than twenty years as a faculty member and more than twenty years as an academic administrator and leader in international education.

Chuck holds a PhD in Economics from Purdue University. Over the course of his administrative career, he has led Academic Affairs at three start-up universities in Bulgaria and the United Arab Emirates. After serving in senior academic leadership roles at the American University in Bulgaria, he returned to the United States to lead international admissions at Oberlin College for five years before moving to the Middle East to serve in a senior academic affairs role at NYU Abu Dhabi. He is currently completing his service as Associate Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) in Abu Dhabi.

Chuck’s interest in the Reconciliation League grows out of a career spent working with students and colleagues from widely different national, cultural, and intellectual backgrounds. He believes that one of the most important things universities can do is challenge students to question their own assumptions, engage seriously with people whose experiences and perspectives differ from their own, and learn to disagree thoughtfully and constructively. He is particularly excited by the opportunity to work with students whose ambitions extend beyond career advancement and who are motivated by intellectual curiosity and a genuine desire to learn, grow, and reconsider their own assumptions. The opportunity to help build a program around these principles is what drew him to the Reconciliation League.

Chuck is married to Katerina (Katya) Grim, who is also a member of the Reconciliation League’s senior leadership team.
