Benjamin is a partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP.  He is the Head of Weil’s Intellectual Property & Media practice and the Global Co-Chair of Weil’s Pro Bono Committee.

Benjamin is widely recognized as one of the foremost intellectual property, media and entertainment litigators in the country.  He has been listed among the leading practitioners in his field by Chambers USA, Legal 500, Lawdragon, Law360, Billboard, and Variety, among others.  He is the recipient of numerous awards, including “Copyright Practitioner of the Year” (Managing Intellectual Property); “MVP” for Media & Entertainment (Law 360); “Litigator of the Week” (American Lawyer), and, most recently, Lawdragon named him as one of the “Leading Litigators in America.”

In his role as Global Co-Chair of Weil’s Pro Bono Committee, Benjamin oversees Weil’s pro bono efforts around the world, which have exceeded 75,000 of free legal service in each year of his tenure in that role.  Weil’s pro bono program supports a wide array of not-for-profit institutions and individuals of limited means and encompasses a broad range of issues, including civil and constitutional rights, human rights, community and economic development, environmental protection, and criminal justice reform, to name just a few.  In his personal pro bono practice, Benjamin has represented student journalists and investigative reporters against efforts to censor their work or punish them for it, academics fleeing political persecution and other refugees seeking asylum in the United States, and organizations devoted to protecting reproductive freedom, among others.  In 2018-2019, he served as a member of a New York State Bar Association Task Force on Wrongful Convictions and its Subcommittee on Conviction Review Units.

Benjamin is an Adjunct Professor at the New York University School of Law and serves on the Advisory Board of NYU’s Engelberg Center on Innovation Law & Policy.  He previously taught at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.

Benjamin graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania and received his J.D. from the New York University School of Law.
